Do you need to budget for the new Queensland mental health levy? A ‘back of the envelope’ effort probably won’t cut it when it comes to calculating an organisation’s liability, as discussed by Hayley Lock and Stacey Biggar. In the Queensland budget on 21 June, it was announced that a mental health levy will be applied to payroll tax liabilities from 1 January 2023. The question for employers with workers in Queensland is how to factor the new levy into their own budgets for FY23. The levy is estimated to provide annual revenue of $425 million by 2025–26.
