ATO releases private wealth Top 500 findings report

The report identifies low levels of tax governance maturity as the main reason why only a small number of groups have obtained ‘Justified Trust’ status.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has released its findings report in relation to its Top 500 private groups tax performance program. This program is targeted at Australia’s wealthiest privately controlled groups. In 2016, the program was initially aimed at the Top 320 wealthiest private groups, and later expanded to the Top 500.
