New Zealand’s 2026 Budget has delivered a collection of reforms, some of which align to what we were expecting and some of which are a complete surprise.

Foreign investment fund rules Foreign Investment Fund (FIF) tax changes are expected to cost NZ$84.6 million over the forecast period. For unlisted shares, making the new revenue account method available to all New Zealand taxpayers, ensuring tax is paid only on realised gains and actual dividends.
